PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICES

It is our pleasure to welcome you to The Bronx Center for Science & Mathematics.  The Pupil Personnel Department (PPD) is pleased to have the opportunity to work with Students on an emotional and psychological level. During the next four years at BCSM we will get to know who Students are and what their dreams and aspirations are.  It is our goal that after graduating from BCSM, Students will be emotionally, psychologically and academically prepared to face any challenges and continue your future endeavors with great confidence.

Ms. Ríos, LMSW, Assistant Principal of Organization/Social Worker, will coordinate this program.  Ms. Ríos works closely with the advisory teachers, guidance counselors, dean, parent coordinator and school community to ensure that each student is psychologically, emotionally, and socially prepared for his or her future endeavors. Team members consist of faculty, parents, students, and the pupil personnel services team.

Ms. Klarl and Ms. Molina, guidance counselors, will workDSC_0051 closely with the students of BCSM to provide services to ensure their academic, emotional, social growth, and career goals. As an advocate for all students, they will work to make certain that each student has fulfilled their academic requirements for graduation. They will hold individual and group sessions. They will consult with teachers, staff, parents and outside professionals and agencies to provide additional services when needed.

Mr. Kurz, Academic Dean/College Counselor, will be responsible for examining each student’s academic performance across each of the subject areas. Mr. Kurz will identify potential problem areas and work directly with students and their teachers to address any academic issues.  In addition, Mr. Kurz will work with high achieving students, ensuring that they take DSC_0035advantage of additional enrichment opportunities.

Mr. Callahan, Director of Enrichment Programs, will be responsible for connecting students with out of school opportunities and serving as liaison to outside organizations.  Mr. Callahan will work closely with students who are interested in science research (fair projects) and other science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related programs. He will also support the College Office by providing oversight for the Heckscher Bridge Programs – a series of summer programs designed to prepare students for college success.

We want each and every one of you to feel comfortable in speaking to any member of the PPD Team about anything and everything and know that everything we discuss will remain confidential.  With that said, it is important for you to remember that if we feel that you or someone else is in danger will we have to concede confidentiality and act according to New York State Law.

We look forward to working with each of you!
