The Science Department at The Bronx Center for Science & Mathematics will offer courses preparing students with the skills and knowledge for pursuing science coursework in college.
New York State requires students to study different areas of science and complete coursework with both lecture and laboratory components. At BCSM students will take science courses culminating in Regents examinations needed to receive an advanced Regents diploma.
The sequence for science coursework at BCSM is as follows:
- Living Environment
- Earth Science
- Conceptual Physics
- AP Environmental Science
- AP Biology
The option to take AP science courses in Grade 12 will be based on student performance in grades 9-11. Students must demonstrate the maturity and motivation needed for AP coursework.
Students will also have the opportunity to participate in enrichment programs after school and off-campus. In previous years, students have participated in the STEM program at City College and the College Now summer pre-health program at Lehman College.
Academic support will also be offered to students. After-school tutoring will take place every week, and students will participate in a Regents prep program on Saturday mornings in the weeks leading up to Regents exams.
