In The Heights (2013)

The BCSM theatre department currently offers two levels of theatre: introduction to theatre and theatre performance. The work in these courses requires personal motivation, passion for exploration, risk-taking, and most importantly, an openness to new ideas, thoughts, and feelings.  Students will enhance and develop performance skills in improvisation, theatre games, spoken word, physical theatre and vocal work. Students will increase our abilities as imaginative and analytical actors by interpreting the texts of dramatic works. Additionally, we will gain new performance skills needed to help build character in monologues and scenes.  These classes will provide an enjoyable outlet for self-expression, group interaction, and an opportunity to explore personal meaning and identity.

West Side Story (2012)

The department produces two full scale musical theatre productions each year. Students audition and are chosen to sing, dance and act among their fellow ensemble members. Technical theatre work is also offered, where students may help design, build and paint the sets. Past productions include: 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Hairspray, Avenue Q School Edition, In the Heights, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors, West Side Story, Urinetown, Zombie Prom, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Joseph, Grease and High School Musical.

Every fall and spring, the theatre department partners with the Theatre Development Fund’s Stage Doors program. Through this program, students collaborate with a TDF teaching artist and attend a Broadway show for free.
